In this episode, I had the pleasure of welcoming Kevin Jourdan , founder of the asynchronous company dokmarket.eu , which specializes in buying and reselling websites.
A passionate web marketing entrepreneur and lover of freedom, Kevin began his career abroad publishing websites. Today, he heads a company that embodies a new way of thinking about work: dematerialized, without offices or fixed schedules, breaking with traditional management codes.
His lifestyle and way of working particularly inspired me, as they reflect the values of tomorrow's business: simplicity, transparency, and autonomy. In a world where work organization is evolving, this approach has become a central theme of discussion since the pandemic.
Who has never dreamed of working in a flexible environment, without imposed hours or a designated office, while remaining efficient and calm?
I. Asynchronous enterprise: a model where professional and personal life are in harmony
“My job fits the lifestyle I want for my life.”
The first thing that strikes you about Kevin is his mindset. A former expat turned digital nomad, he's built a business that's aligned with his lifestyle.
His experience in the Philippines allowed him to discover a management style based on trust and team spirit. He explains that this culture was instrumental in collaborating remotely and launching new projects.
Today, Kevin runs three businesses from anywhere. He's free to travel, free to set his own schedule, and isn't tied down by a physical location. This approach works perfectly for him.
II. Recruitment and profiles sought.
“ I have always been attracted to autonomous, free and disciplined profiles. ”
According to Kevin, an asynchronous company works best when employees share a common vision of work and an openness to the world. He emphasizes that traveling, discovering, and adapting naturally bring teams together.
It tells the story of Aurélie, a former pastry chef in New York, who offered free web training to join his company. For Kevin, this is the perfect example of an "entrepreneurial mindset": curiosity, initiative, and commitment.
III. Trust extended to employees.
What matters most to Kevin is neither diplomas nor a traditional career path, but motivation, the ability to question himself and to communicate transparently.
“What matters is desire, honesty, the will to progress.”
His management style is based on exemplary leadership, trust, and the right to make mistakes. In an asynchronous company, transparency and attentiveness become essential levers of engagement.
IV. Organization in an asynchronous company.
“Organization is not my strong point… but I’m improving.”
Kevin recognizes that organization is a key skill in this type of environment, especially when communication can only take place remotely.
In an asynchronous company, it's impossible to run into a colleague at the coffee machine to pass on a message. You have to learn to express yourself clearly, to structure your thoughts, to write down the essentials.
Communication must be action-oriented, precise and well-documented.
And in France, where are we?
Despite the rise of teleworking during the health crisis, the asynchronous model remains relatively uncommon in France, compared to other European countries.
Several obstacles are holding back its democratization: the culture of presenteeism, the lack of openness to change, and the difficulty of trusting without direct control. However, the benefits are numerous:
Recruit the best talent, wherever they are.
Promote work-life balance.
Reduce costs associated with commercial real estate.
Improve engagement and productivity.
